A politician, professor of law, and attorney from the United States, Katherine Moore Porter currently represents California’s 47th congressional district after serving as its representative from 2019 to 2023.

Porter, who was born on January 3rd, 1974, was raised in the rural Iowa town of Fort Dodge. Dan Porter, her father, was a farmer who later became a banker. Liz, her mother, helped establish Fons & Porter’s Love of Quilting.

Porter attended Yale University and majored in American studies after graduating from Phillips Academy in 1993. She received her degree in 1996.

She wrote The Effects of Corporate Farming on Rural Community for her undergrad thesis. She attended Yale’s Grace Hopper College, which was once known as Calhoun College.

During this time, Porter also worked as a Chuck Grassley intern. Afterward, Porter enrolled in Harvard Law School, where she served as the notes editor of the Harvard Women’s Law Journal and a member of the Board of Student Advisers.

She received her Juris Doctor in 2001, graduating with honors under the tutelage of future U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren, a professor of bankruptcy law.
