American actor Jermaine Lateef Rivers was born on September 22, 1973. His most well-known role was as Shatter in the Fox/Marvel television series The Gifted. In the Lifetime Channel television series Devious Maids, he played Officer Carter.
He enlisted in the United States Army in 1993 and attended basic training at Fort Jackson in South Carolina. Rivers served in the military on a full-time basis from March 17, 1993, to May 31, 2013.
He served in five deployments with the 22nd Signal Brigade, two of which were combat missions in Baghdad, Iraq (2002–2003). He also served in Afghanistan’s cities of Bagram and Khandahar under the command of the 16th Sustainment Brigade (2009-2010).
