Maurizio Arrivabene, who was born on March 7, 1957, is an Italian manager and sports director who currently serves as the CEO of the Italian football club Juventus. Arrivabene is a former marketer and salesperson.
He joined Philip Morris International in 1997 and worked his way up to vice president of Marlboro global communication and promotions in 2007 and vice president of consumer channel strategy and event marketing in 2011.
Through his employment with Philip Morris, he got involved with the company’s sponsorship of the Ferrari Formula One team (through the Marlboro brand), and starting in 2010, he served on the Formula One Commission as a representative of the sport’s sponsors.
After Marco Mattiacci, who had only held the role since April of that year, was fired, Ferrari announced on November 23 that Arrivabene had been named the team’s new team principal. The decision to employ Arrivabene was taken by the new Ferrari chairman, Sergio Marchionne, who cited Arrivabene’s “thorough awareness not just of Ferrari but also of the governance systems and requirements of the sport” as one of the factors in his selection. Marchionne, who removed the longtime Ferrari Chairman Luca di Montezemolo, made this appointment as part of his team’s regeneration strategy. After the 2018 season, Mattia Binotto, the previous technical director, took over as Ferrari team principal from Arrivabene.
