The late Joe and Joyce Nelson had only one child, Anthony, who was born on October 6, 1975. His mother and grandmother, who were also gospel singers, introduced him to the genre of music when he was a little child. Nelson completed his undergraduate studies in science at Southern University and A&M College, followed by a master’s degree in science at Louisiana State University, before landing a job as an environmental engineer.
He noticed himself moving away from the church he had been attending frequently after the death of his parents. He concentrated on his relationship with God during his mourning and began utilizing music to strengthen this bond. After returning to church, he had a newfound relationship with God.
