During World War II, his father was a member of the Royal Army Ordnance Corps. He was wounded in an explosion while taking a warfare training course.

Upon returning he enjoyed success in a second career as a composer, penning songs including Cliff Richard’s smash single “Marianne.”

Edith Stevenson was born in Pollokshields, Glasgow, Scotland, on June 13, 1910. She was an actress best known for her roles in the films Our Miss Pemberton and A House Called Bell Tower.

She married Bill Owen in 1946 and the pair lived together in England. After 18 years together Edith and Bill decided to go their separate ways, with Bill getting married to Kathleen O’Donoghue.

She passed away in Brighton, Sussex, England, UK, on August 7, 1980.
