Ten Hag was a centre-back in the Dutch league for 13 years, appearing for Twente (three times), De Graafschap, RKC Waalwijk, and Utrecht. He won the Eerste Divisie with De Graafschap in 1990-91 and the KNVB Cup with Twente in 2000-01.
Ten Hag was named manager of Go Ahead Eagles in the Eerste Divisie in 2012. Ten Hag went on to coach Bayern Munich II from June 2013 to 2015, during which time he guided his team to the Regionalliga Bayern. In the summer of 2015, Ten Hag was appointed as Utrecht’s sporting director and head coach. He was named manager of Ajax in December 2017, and he guided his side to the Dutch championship in 2019.
