Diego Ulissi is a versatile all-around cyclist who frequently wins stages and one-day races from breakaways on hilly terrain.
He is only the second cyclist in history, after Giuseppe Palumbo, to win two World Junior Road titles in a row. After Giovanni Visconti was relegated for improper sprinting, he was awarded stage 17 of the 2011 Giro d’Italia.

Ulissi’s mother works at a winery, and his father is a mountain bike racer. Ulissi’s father encouraged his cycling passion, and he competed in his first race in 1996.
Ulissi who was born in 1989 in Cecina won the Junior World Road Race Championships in 2006 and 2007.
Diego Armando was named after Diego Maradona, his father’s favorite football player.
Ulissi lives in Switzerland with his wife, Arianna, and daughters, Lia and Anna, just outside of Lugano. He missed Anna’s birth in March 2020 because he was quarantined at the UAE Tour after four UAE Team Emirates riders tested positive for COVID-19.
