The projected transfer of Frenkie De Jong to Manchester United is apparently being held up by a shocking pay demand from the Catalans.

When it became clear that Paul Pogba would be leaving Old Trafford, the Red Devils began pursuing the Dutch international late last season.

The teams are thought to have struck a preliminary deal, while Barcelona has strongly refuted the idea.

However, the transaction is reportedly stalled owing to United’s unwillingness to pay De Jong’s overdue salary in the amount of £24 million dollars.

According to reliable sources, De Jong’s pay decreased during the epidemic to relieve the club’s financial load.

Following the arrangement of payment deferrals in his new deal, the Dutchman’s pay package was set to revert to normal in the future seasons.

However, United is thought to be hesitant to accept the additional £24 million owed to De Jong by Barcelona.

After being formally appointed as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s permanent replacement, new Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag is said to have made acquiring De Jong one of his top priorities for next season.
