Zachary Leon Andrews, a former NBA G League player for the Northern Arizona Suns, was born in the United States on March 9, 1985. He attended Bradley University and Yuba College while growing up in Rancho Cordova, California, and played basketball in college.

As a child, Andrews lived in Oakland, California, with his mother and three siblings in poverty. He eventually spent over a decade in foster care until reuniting with his biological mother in public housing in Sacramento, California as a teenager. Andrews graduated in 2003 from Rancho Cordova High School in Rancho Cordova, California. Andrews lettered in both basketball and football at Cordova.

Andrews trained with the Sacramento Kings over the summer of 2007 after being undrafted in the NBA draft. Andrews signed Spanish third-tier LEB Plata’s Costa Urbana Playas de Santa Pola after an attempt to join LEB Plata’s Farho Gijón failed. Due to an injury, Andrews was released by Santa Pola.

Andrews participated in the Turkish Basketball Second League’s final 14 games of the season for Genc Banvitliler, averaging 11.6 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 2 assists. The team acquired Andrews in January 2008. Andrews was chosen for the honorable mention team for the league. He was the team’s lone American.
