Tim Mains, the superintendent of the Pine Bush Central School District, has died. He died suddenly on Thursday, December 30, 2021. Mains was 73 years old.
According to the Wallkill police chief, they received a call Thursday morning from a man who said he was having a medical emergency.
Police had to force their way into the home, where they found Mains who was unconscious.
They began extensive efforts to revive him but were unsuccessful.
Police Chief Robert Hertman called Mains a dedicated individual who will be missed.Mains had served as superintendent since 2017.
Mains was a longtime Rochester City Councilmember, for around 20 years, starting in 1986.
He also had made an unsuccessful run for Rochester Mayor.
Tims worked as a teacher and an administrator in the Greece and Rochester school districts.
Mains was the first openly gay man in New York State to be elected to public office in 1985.
