The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) is demanding a permit before it would allow the Arts Centre, which is currently under construction, to be completed.

On Friday, November 5, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Mark Okraku Mantey took to Twitter to announce that the first phase of the new Arts Centre is 90 per cent complete.

He said he was present at the new building to personally inspect the ongoing project.

According to him, the new outfit will comprise of an administration block, over 400 shops, a spacious compound, security post and public washrooms.

“The 1st phase of the new Arts Centre is 90% complete. On Nov. 1, 2021, I inspected the ongoing project at Kanda & received a briefing from the project manager. The new edifice will comprise an administration block, over 400 shops, spacious compound, security post & public washrooms,” he tweeted.

Even though a few people praised him, some tweeps spotted a weird issue about the build. It is AMA’s famous stamp on the building: ‘Stop work, produce permit.’

This raised concerns about the authenticity of the project, with many questioning AMA’s jurisdictions.

“Government project and AMA says produce. Herh Ghana,” a tweep quizzed.

Another asked: “Oh so this one too the AMA nor allow you, make you build for free eiii”

One user oddly blasted Mark Okraku for supporting the government on the economic hardship, saying: “After havin’ the ministerial appointment, your sense has vanish. You talk just like those of them who think about the next election not the next generation. “Free SHS” so Ghanaians should embrace the economic hardship. Not your fault. We listened to manifestos full of lies.”
