From 6 March 1964 to the end of the Greek monarchy on 1 June 1973, Constantine II (born 2 June 1940; died 10 January 2023) served as the country’s final king.

Paul was the third child of King Constantine I of Greece and his wife, Princess Sophia of Prussia, and was born on December 14, 1901, at the Tatoi Palace in Attica, north of Athens.

At the Royal Military College at Sandhurst and then at the Hellenic Military Academy in Kypseli, Athens, he received his military training. Paul was a Lieutenant with the Evzones and a cadet army officer in the Coldstream Guards.

Paul wed Princess Frederica of Hanover, his second cousin through Christian IX of Denmark and first cousin once removed through Frederick III, German Emperor, and Victoria, Princess Royal, in Athens on January 9, 1938. Three kids were born to them.

Ernest Augustus, Duke of Brunswick, and Princess Victoria Louise of Prussia were the parents of his mother, Princess Frederica of Hanover.

From 1 April 1947 to 6 March 1964, as the wife of King Paul, Frederica of Hanover (Friederike Luise: 18 April 1917 – 6 February 1981) ruled Greece. She assumed the role of queen mother during the reign of her son, Constantine II, after the passing of her husband in 1964.
