A note was reportedly found in the home that indicated the cause of death was suicide. According to reports, Spade’s suicide note included a message for her 13-year-old daughter, Frances Beatrix Spade, telling her that the suicide was not her fault.
Kate Spade had over 175 retail locations worldwide, including 140 in the United States.
Kate was best known for her classic, kitschy brand of the same name. In 1999, she sold 56 percent of the company to Neiman Marcus for $33.6 million.
In 2006, the company was officially sold. Even after the company was sold, it remained a celebrity favorite. Kate Middleton famously wore Kate Spade on World Mental Health Day, which helped the brand’s reach.
